YES, Ramones was the first band known as a punk rocker. the music and lyric was about politics, social, rebellion, and do it yoursefl! (DIY) while others played love, romantic, and structural. Ramones was famous because of their 3-chord music style. they did talk about love but it weren't a cry baby love ! IMO, ramones played a punk n' roll

later, there was sex pistols formed in UK. sex pistols were responsible for influencing many later punk rock bands.sex pistols was famous of their songs called god save the queen and an album called never mind the bollocks, here's sex pistols. IMO, sex pistols still played a punk rock.

after these two bands, punk was getting bigger and transformed into different form. there were rancid, NOFX, greenday who brought punk into major label and made people loves punk, sum41 with their alternative music, goldfinger, the living end, and many more. there were others punk like pop punk (pop music with punk pack) and so on, and so on, and so on. help me write this please... :(

okay, back to topic... so, deksiberu, what is punk in ur mind????

let me think a moment.... mmmmm... zzzzzzz...... groookkkk...

PUNK is:

- an ism

- punk respects brotherhood and family so much!

- punk depends on yourself, in otherwords do it ur self ! it's u to be u, not others

- punk is an anti-proper. this is the best part for me. it will take many pages just to describing what anti-proper is. it's not about become poor. it's about CHANGING A STEADY AND BORING STATE OF LIFE.

- punk's related to smoke, tattoo, piercing and drunk. BUT if u smoke, have tattoo, have a lot of piercings, and always getting drunk dont make u r a punk. once i heard that a punker tattooed his body because he don't wanna get hurt by life anymore, it's not about get a cool look.

- punk always care about environment, politics, rights, and united.

- punk always transform. no matter if it's a pop, rock, ska, country

- punk doesnt care about ur looking. just be ur self ! it's funny that a "punk rocker" spends half in saloon just because of his looking, buying a fashion because of its brand, having a gadget even he cant use it properly.

- a real punk rocker never angry in the middle of punk rock show. he may be brutal with people but in the end of the show they are friends even he lost his tooth while getting in the crowd !

- punk is a freedom !!!!!

-

-

-

- what else???? i dont know, im already sleepy.... hahahaha.. that boy makes me write this fool article.. he fooled me !!!!

so, r u a punker?

disclaimer : deksiberu is not a punker, nor a punk rocker. and deksiberu is nobody ! deksiberu is just a boy who excited with punk and wanna learn it in different form. deksiberu always listen to punk songs no matter it is rock or pop because deksiberu loves music so much. THIS IS JUST A BEFORE-BED-WRITING.

getting know about Power Supply Unit (PSU) for beginner

olaaaa... :D

it's a hot day ! even in a hill.. :(

today, i would like to share my limited experiences (I'M NOT AN EXPERT IN THIS TOPIC) about PSU. PSU is one of PC parts usually forgotten. Most of people buy a good PC without paying attention in PSU. Whereas, PSU plays an important jobs in PC system. Yes, PSU is a device that giving ur PC a life ! If there is no PSU, then ur good-powerful-cool PC will be nothing because it cant be used.

Stupidy, a good PC deserves a good PSU. If u can buy an expensive PC u should be able to buy a good (expensive) PSU. As for me, the budget for PSU is about 10% of PC total budget.

What is a good PSU? Must a good PSU has an expensive Price? What makes the PSU worth to buy?

okay, before i answer these questions lets talk about PSU it self. I hope from what i explains below, these questions will be able to answers :)

PSU SPECs

if we have a PSU, usually we'll see many words in the body explaining PSU's capabilities.

# POWER

power in electricity can be shown as watt (real) or VA (apparent) ; VA stands for Volt Amperes.

so, what is power?? let me describe it in my way.. :)

- Volt Ampere (VA)

VA is the result of volt (V) * current ( A )

or in mathematical VA = V * A

why VA is an apparent? because actually the devices don't use as much as the values from the formula above.

- Watt

watt is the real power that devices used. This information is the main point of a PSU. If u need a 400W power u need buy at least a 400W PSU.

so, what makes the VA and Watt different?

there are a coefficient called power factor ( pf ). VA values always bigger than Watt values. so, in mathematical i can say that pf = watt/VA ; 0< pf <1

pf = 1 means the PSU system is a good system because there are no "power loss". pf will be useful in the countries that use VA to make the bill !

- PFC

PFC stands for power factor correction. this is a circuit in a PSU. A PSU with PFC has better pf than PSU without PFC. there are two kinds of PFC

a) pasif PFC or PPFC. this is an earlier PFC circuit formed by capacitor. pf values of PFC is about 0.7 - 0.8 while non PFC PSU gives 0.5 - 0.6.

b) active PFC or APFC is a newer PFC circuit that gives up to 0.99 values of pf

for example : if there is a PPFC PSU (pf=0.8) then to serve a 400Watt, it actually need 500VA to fulfill it.

- RAIL

rails are the lane of PSU. in PC PSU there are (the important ones) 3,3 v rail, 5 v rail, and 12 v rail. a new model PSU usually consists of two or more 12 v rail. Nowadays 12 v plays important parts of PSU because this rail deliver the most power of PSU.

- RIPPLE

ripple is fluctuation of PSU rail. the a perfect PSU will give a constant value of its rail. of course there are no perfect one :D. 5 % or below of ripple may indicates a good PSU.

- over X protection (OxP)

OCP (current) and OVP (voltage) is a protection for PSU. PSU will be shutted down if there are any over values in current or voltage.

- peak and continuous power

peak power is a short time power that PSU can deliver. Continous power is the the power that PSU can give all the time. if PSU's peak power is used, the PSU will be dead soon enough.

- efficiency

efficiency is a ratio between output power and input power. As an example, if ur PC consumes 400W and the input needs 500W then the efficiency is 400/500 = 80%

# CONCLUSION

so, from what i explain above? what is a good PSU???

first of all, u need to know how much power ur PC need... u can use PSU calculator to predict it.. one of the best PSU calculator can be found here : http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp

just for a safety, please choose a slight bigger values from what u get from the PSU calculator.. for example, if the PSU calculator say that u need a 350W PSU, i recommend that u better buy a 400W PSU.

the second one, choose a PURE POWER PSU !!! why? because i'm sure it will be good if u get from what u paid. so, if u need a 400W PSU, please buy a real 400W PSU. dont be fooled by its label !

the next step is u need to pay attention in PFC. as i explain above, PFC is very useful if ur country uses VA values for ur electrical bill. but, if the electrical bill still based on WATT values, i can say that PFC is not worth enough.. in additional, PFC helps u to protect from a bad electric wave. Please note that, some countries have rules about PFC. A PSU in those countries must use APFC.

then, u need to concern in efficiency. the bigger efficiency values the better PSU u will get. for now, a 80% efficiency is a must and be a trend :) in some countries, a electrical bill is based on WATT consumption. So, i can say that the more efficient ur PSU the less money u will spend to pay ur electrical bill :)

Today's PC parts uses 12 V rail as their power source. Graphic card, HDD, Motherboard, and others. so, 12V rail is something special. you may need at least 30A currents in 12V rail. it will gives u 360 VA just in 12V rail. then 5v rail can serve 25 A so there is 125 VA. And the 3,3v rail can serve 20A so there is 66 VA. so from examples above the total power of the PSU is 360+125+66 = 551 VA.

please note that, in the PSU label there should be (usually) printed a PURE POWER of PSU in WATT. so, if the PSU label says 400W and there are informations about pf = 0.8 and efficiency = 85%, these mean :

a) PSU can deliver (DC output) 400W continous power

b) PSU actually deliver 500VA continous power --> from pf

c) PSU actually consumes 470,588 Watt (ac input) or 588.235 VA --> these values will be used to create ur electrical bill

so, in short :D good PSU are :

1) pure power. u will get what u paid !

2) small ripple. 12v rail is true 12v , 5v rail is true 5v "lost" here may means ur dvd physically lost (just in case u forget where u put it) or the dvd is unreadable (too many scratch on the dvd, bad dvd quality).
so, u need to create a back up of ur dvd. the back up may be stored in the HDD and ur problem is temporary solved because the HDD cant be lost (it's attached to the PC, so if the HDD lost, ur pc must be lost too :D) nor it cant be unreadable (at least the lifetime of HDD is much longer than DVD).

as the time goes, ur HDD may contain too many movies and u dont have any spaces left to store movies. i have two alternatives :
1. buy a bigger size of HDD and u can store ur movies there. an 1 TB HDD is cheap now. it cost just about $75. u can store about 212 dvd movies :)
2. if u dont have much money u can try to "shrink" the dvd into a smaller data. i prefer to this one :thumb:

to "shrink" ur movies to smaller files is called compression. as i explained above, a movie consists of music and video. in the digital world they are always 1 or 0.
so what makes the data diffrent? it's called codec (compressor decompressor). music and video have different kind of codec. in the dvd movies the video codec is MPEG2 while the audio uses dvd-audio.
these kind of codecs is a loss less so that, the size of data may be very big. so, to compress ur dvd video simply by using a different codec that has a smaller size of data but still have good quality.

here we go :D
first, u need this kind of softwares

1.DVD decrypter
dvd decrypter is a software to copy ur dvd structure into ur HDD. a dvd videos usually protected by some kind of protection so that u cant copy it using a default windows copy manager.
dvd decrypter helps u to break the protection and u just can smile and drink up ur beer while the dvd decryter works
first u need to select the source of the dvd, then select the destination folder.

as u can see the figure above, u can choose only the main movie of the dvd. it marked by the size of the data ( 1 GB splitting --> vob files), an ifo file, and a bup file. if u just select the vob ones u still can compress it but the movie will be splited and u will lost the subtitle.
the part that i marked by red square is the information of the protection. just click decrypt and be patient :)

2. autogk
if u've finished copying ur dvd into HDD, u will need this thing :D
autogk is a software to "change the codec" i said before. in the cool words it's called "encode". so autogk is an encoder sofware :D
when u install it, just click next, next,...... next, until finish. just dont changes anything. :D

okay, after finish the installation simply just follow this step.
believe me, i've tried many kind settings of this software and i think this is the best for me to encode dvd movies into avi movies :)
a) select input file. in the dvd case, select the ifo files u copied before

b) select output file

c) go to the audio tracks and select the audio. i think the default one is the best.. :)

d) go to the subtitle part and choose ur subtitle. u may leave it if u dont want a subtitle. because the subtitle is "attached" to the movie file.

e) select the output size. for a dvd movie (usually below 2 hours) i prefer choose predefined size (700MB). it gives a good ratio between size and quality. u can choose higher size for better quality, but i dont recommend above 1400 GB since what we want here is a smaller size with (still) good quality. also, dont choose below 700MB for a movie :D

PS : i asume a dvd movie is an half and an hour long movie. so 1 hour and 30 minutes is equal to 700 MB. if u have a longer movie please use a bigger size in order to get the same quality (example : 3 hours equal to 1400 MB and a short 45 minutes movie equals to 350 MB)

f) then click the advanced settings. u need to set the image resolution, audio bit rate, and video codec.
for image resolution please choose between 640 - 688 in fixed width mode. for audio bit rate please choose vbr between 192 - 240 (the higher the better), and for the codec use Xvid instead of divX. i made a comparasion before that xvid gave a better quality than divX in the same file size. :)

g) the last step is add job and press start.
PS : for the first time use, u need to accept of somethings so u need to stand by just for a moment ;)

well, it's done ! :thumb:
all u need now is a cup of coffee, cigarettes, and snacks.. :D
it will take about 1 hour and 30 mins long to finish the job in a single core amd processor. the more powerfull ur rig the faster it will take.

happy encoding !!!

oh, i almost forget :D
the result of autogk is an *.avi files with xvid codec and mp3 audio codec. so, in the latest standalone dvd player it can be played :) u dont need to switch on ur PC just for watching movies. GO GREEN DUDES !!!

and u may need this software in ur PC ;)
1.K-lite mega codec pack
it contains almost all of audio and video codec so that u can play almost all type videos in ur PC.

2.autoMKV and/or HDConvertToX
since there are a better codec than xvid (video) and mp3(audio) this software may be useful for u. they can encode the dvd or even bluray into mkv format.
this format is famous since it usually used to store mpeg4/h264 codec (video) and aac (audio). these 2 codec give better quality in the same size than xvid and mp3 do.
these softwares can convert a HD movie.
one of the disadvantages is these codec cant be played in standalone dvd player but it just a matter of time :)

3. dvd pean
this is a all in one dvd ripper(encoder) it may be useful if u need others format instead of avi (xvid). it can encode dvd into its chapter (suitable for music video dvd --> u want the music vids individually for each song :D). but it's not a freeware.

4. format factory
this freeware can convert almost all kind of video into almost all kind of video format.
